Love is a Bubble
"Love is a Bubble" was originally written for an AIDS awareness concert, organized by composer Troy Wayne, that never took place in 1999. I found this text while organizing the archives while working as a student librarian and New England Conservatory. The text was originally set by George Chadwick.
What attracted me to the text was the apparent shallowness of the text, "love is bright wine/ to quicken your pleasure." I found this theme fitting for an AIDS awareness piece as this deadly virus is most often transmitted in a reckless pursuit of pleasure. Pleasures that, like wine, are fleeting.
"Love" was first performed by Daniel Mutlu [tenor] and Shen Wen [piano] during an all Joseph Johnson recital at NEC in 1999. The piece is dedicated Jessica Fornwalt.
